Jannik Sinner has been crowned the new World No. 1 in men’s tennis.

He is the first Italian male or female to achieve the World No. 1 classification in singles since the inception of computerized rankings in 1973.

Carlos Alcaraz, the most recent French Open champion, is ranked second after defeating Sinner in a five-set semifinal. Novak Djokovic, the former world number one, is ranked third. Djokovic withdrew from Roland Garros due to a knee injury that necessitated surgery last week.

Alexander Zverev, who was defeated by Alcaraz in five sets in the Roland Garros final on Sunday, is ranked fourth.

Sinner, who is 22 years old, commenced the year at the fourth position in the world rankings.
